eeePC update June 9, 2008

Well I made the leap and have moved to XP on this machine. I just couldn't get into the Linux groove. And the wifi was flaky, too.

So I had done plenty of reading and prep. I had a fresh XP disc. I have used nLite to lighten the load and stripped it back to less than 2GB (I think). Image burned, ready to load.

I borrowed a neighbors CD drive and went to work. All told, it took me less than 3 hours to load it all, get the D drive properly partitioned and then load some crucial software. Filemaker is up and runs quite nicely. I set up an 8GB SD card and that now houses My Documents.

I am adapting very quickly to the tiny keyboard. Wifi works FAST and the battery life is, as reported, not excellent. All in all, I am very happy.

eeePC 900 has just arrived-- Linux flavor

I just unboxed my eeePC 900 20GB. It is impossibly small. Here are some photos of the unboxing. This was a gift from my brother, Benjamin. He can be "seen" over at World's Greatest Toys dot com.

The box has arrived and here is the machine with my iPod and with a regular CD:

Here is the machine open with a CD on top for scale:

Finally, here it is booted and show the main screen, and then Firefox (where I'm getting beaten in chess).

I have just begun playing. The screen looks great, the keyboard is quite small. I don't think I'll have too much trouble adapting though. I have already set up an nLited XP disc and I'll work towards installing XP some time soon.

Thanks for reading
